Our Clinics & Other Services

Cervical Smears

Cervical smears are recommended every 3 years from 25-50 years of age, and every 5 years from 50-65. You should be notified if your smear is due, but if in doubt, do ask.

Routine smears are performed by all our practice  nurses.  They can also be performed by any of the doctors.

Contraception

We offer a fully comprehensive family planning service in normal surgery times. If required, a female doctor, nurse or nurse practitioner is generally available. Annual pill checks can be done by a practice nurse.

If you require a contraceptive coil or implant fitting, please discuss with your doctor or nurse first.

Foreign Travel Advice

GOING ABROAD ON HOLIDAY OR BUSINESS

At the Practice we have seen an increasing trend in holidays to far away destinations and adventure holidays with more complex itineraries, with this has come an increase in the risk to travellers health.

We are able to offer basic holiday advice and vaccinations which are available on the NHS however we are not a specialist centre with the expertise that is available at travel clinics where they undertake extended training in Travel Medicine. If travel plans are complex and require SPECIALIST advice we would recommend attending a specialist travel clinic

If you think you need immunisation or malaria prevention please complete and send to us the TRAVEL QUESTIONNAIRE at least 8 weeks before you travel.

For last minute travel we will do our best to provide the protection you need, but this will depend on vaccinations required and availability of appointments.

You should contact the surgery 7 working days afterwards to obtain information from the receptionist who will advise you:-

A)            If you require an appointment and they will book this for you

B)            If anti-malarial tablets are required with any associated costs

Maternity Care

Health Visitor with ChildWe provide a maternity medical service, and work closely with local midwives. Women who believe they are pregnant should see a doctor in surgery. Once pregnancy is confirmed you will be asked to attend an antenatal clinic with the midwife and doctor, and further care will be planned. Depending on circumstances and patients’ choice, care can be arranged with York, Pontefract, Leeds General Infirmary or St James’ Hospitals.

Parentcraft classes for future mothers and fathers are held regularly, arranged by the midwives and health visitors.

Child Immunisation

Clinics are run regularly each week so please call the Surgery to book your childs required immunisation. Always remember to bring their red book to be updated.

If you do not know what immunistations your child currently needs, please still make an appointment with our Nurse in the above clinic to discuss their requirments.
