Job Summary
Sherburn Group Practice is looking to expand our team with a suitably qualified phlebotomist.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder works under supervision of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and will undertake tasks and duties delegated by the lead nurse or a suitably qualified regulated professional. They will work with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures.
- Collection of samples of blood in accordance with training
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
- Checking patient identification against request, confirming with patient
- Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedures
- Ensuring samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories
- Ordering equipment/stock and maintaining supplies
- Ensuring anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
- Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues
- Liaising with and assisting members of the reception team
- Liaising with a assisting members of the nursing team
- Working within practice infection control processes/procedures
About Us
We are a 10 doctor practice serving 11,000 patients. We have a new purpose-built surgery opened in June 2024. We are located in Sherburn in Elmet, Leeds. We are a training and teaching practice with the Hull York Medical School. We are part of the Tadcaster and Selby Rural PCN. We are rated Good in all areas of CQC assessment at our last inspection.
Person Specification
- Qualified phlebotomist
- Good standard of general education
- Excellent communication skills
Experience (desirable)
- Experience of working with patients/public
- Experience of working within a GP practice setting
- Experience of working with SystmOne clinical system although full training will be provided to the right candidate.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Job Specifics
One full day and two afternoons per week – 18hrs in total. Full day will be Thursday. Half days are negotiable.
